Soaring Andean ranges. Colourful colonial cities. Lush tropical rainforests. And incredible Caribbean beaches. Colombia delivers on every level. Ready to embrace it all? We thought so. Touch down in the Colombian capital of Bogotá, meet your Topdeck representative at the airport and weave your way through the buzzing streets to our accommodation. Yep, you’re finally here. Later, we’ll meet up with our fellow adventurers – we may be a mixed bunch but we’re all in it together. The way it was meant to be. For dinner tonight, hunt down a local haunt and give the local specialty ajiaco a try – it’s been around for centuries so it’s gotta be good.

Rise and shine! Time to delve a little deeper into this culturally diverse and vibrant city. We’ll kick things off with a city tour – starting in the historical neighbourhood of La Candelaria. Wander the cobblestoned streets, colonial architecture, Baroque churches and incredible street art with our in-the-know Trip Leader. Then: gawp at the 34,000-odd pieces of gold belonging to pre-Hispanic societies at the Gold Museum. After our included lunch, get an education in art at the Fernando Botero Museum – before hitting new heights on a cable car ride up Monserrate Hill. At an altitude of 3,048m, the views here are redic. Tonight, dinner is up to you but your local Trip Leader knows where to get the best fritanga – dig in with the gang!

Our love affair with Bogotá was short but sweet. Next up? Colombia’s Coffee Triangle. Today is a bit of a drive day so, stock up on snacks and jump aboard our trusty steed (read: coach) – we’re taking the scenic route to the tiny town of Salento. Think: colourfully painted facades, chilled vibes and plenty of coffee shops (obvs). Dump your stuff and make like Dora for the rest of the evening. While you’re here, give the locally specialty trucha a try. Trust us.

Down your coffee (it’s good, right?) and pile onto the coach – we’re off to the sleepy village of Filandia. Check out the vibrant architecture, street vendors selling colourful handicrafts and incredible views over Eje Cafetero on a walking tour. Then, after an included lunch, head out and do your own spontaneous this-is-what-I-came-for thing. Rub shoulders with the friendly locals at Cultivar Café. Tuck into some yuca croquettes and empanadas at Helena Adentro. Or sit back in the town square and soak up the laid-back vibes. Next, we’ll take the scenic route to Cocora Valley – home to Colombia’s national tree: the Palma de Cera. Glue your face to the window as we wind our way through the breathtaking scenery back to Salento. We’ll get the run about town with our expert Trip Leader – before venturing off to find a local haunt for dinner.

Today is all about getting off the beaten gringo trails. We’ll journey through lush coffee plantations and rolling green hills to Pereira – where an education in Colombian coffee awaits. Where better to learn the ins and outs than at a traditional Colombian hacienda? Answer: nowhere. Feel like you’ve just stepping into a scene off Narcos (minus the drug references), as our hosts show us around the plantation, give us the low-down on the production process and explain the fine art of coffee tasting. Sufficiently caffeinated, we’ve got the rest of the afternoon to relax at the hacienda: our home for the night.

Today, we’re leaving the Coffee Triangle behind and heading into the Middle Andes Mountains. Cross the famous Puente de Occidente and glue you face to the window as we zig-zag our way down the valley to Medellín. Dump your stuff at the hostel and strap in for a tour of the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ – getting all the inside knowledge on this city’s fascinating history and culture from our expert Trip Leader. Then: we’ll head to La Comuna 13 to ride the electric staircase (yes, it’s a thing), check out the awesome street graffiti and learn how 90’s hip hop has completely transformed this area. Tonight, head to El Poblado and tuck into some droolworthy Colombian eats. Bandeja paisa is a traditional Medellín dish – it’s good, trust us.

Ready to rock ‘n’ roll? Before we leave Medellín behind, there’s one bucket-list item to tick off: El Peñol. This baby is a 200-metre-high monolith with I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E views over the bluer-than-blue lakes and rolling green landscape below. Strap on those Nikes and tackle the 740 steps to the top with the gang. It’s worth the burning calves. Trust us. Regain your energy on the short coach ride to Guatapé, then hit the insanely colourful streets running. Fun fact: the brightly painted zocalos here depict the traditional scenes and the history of the town – so, you get an education and some pretty awesome pics at the same time. Win! Later, you could organise a boat trip and explore the picturesque lake. Get the adrenaline pumping with some extreme sports. Or pull up a pew at a lakeside-bar, order a cold cerveza and mingle with the locals. This is livin’.

No lies, today is a bit of a travel day. BUT you’re gonna end up in tropical paradise by the day’s end so no need to whinge. Jump aboard our included domestic flight. Catch up on some zzz’s. And psych each other up over the pristine white-washed sandy beaches and glittering turquoise water that await in Santa Marta. Later, you’ve got the whole afternoon to embrace it all. Do the obvious and get horizontal at Rodadero Beach. Or head into the city and experience the lively Santa Marta market. Take a wander around the historic city centre (it’s one of the oldest surviving cities in South America). Then, choose a beachside restaurant for your fill of fresh seafood, grilled chorizo and unusual native fruits like lulo or maracuya (yellow passionfruit). Mmmm.

Nature lover? Today is YOUR day. We’re heading to the biodiverse Tayrona National Park for a full day of exploring the incredible natural wonderland. Think: wild jungles, picture-perfect beaches and alllll the rare and unusual animals you can think of. It’s real-life Jurassic Park. Hit the jungle trails with the gang and venture through the tropical rainforest – keeping your eyes peeled for monkeys, giant boa constrictors, keel-billed toucans and basilisk lizards (aka the Jesus Christ lizard – you’ll see why). Cool off with a swim at pristine La Piscina, take a load off at the mirrored beaches of Cabo San Juan and fuel up with a fresh fruit juice – before we return to Santa Marta tonight. What. A. Day.

Wave goodbye to Santa Marta, we’re making tracks to Cartagena after breakfast. Get your bearings on a walking tour of the city’s Old Town – wandering past the stunning colonial architecture, picturesque cobblestone streets, lively Plaza San Pedro and stunning clock tower. This place has alllll the good vibes. Then? The rest is up to you amigos! Head out of Old Town and explore the imposing 17th-century San Felipe Castle. Check out the array of historical artefacts housed in La Popa. Grab a coffee alfresco and enjoy some live music in one of the pastel-coloured plazas. Then, head to Café del Mar for a rum cocktail and A-mazing sunset. This is your moment.

Get ready to live out all your Pirates of the Caribbean fantasies (sans Johnny Depp) – today we’re gonna trade our wheels for a motorboat and head into the azure waters of the Rosario Islands. A totally gorge archipelago off the Caribbean Coast, this place is one of Colombia’s most treasured national parks – filled with tropical fish, colourful coral and the best dang beaches you’ve ever laid eyes on. We’ll set up shop on Encanto Island and have the whole morning to swim, sunbake, snorkel and simply soak up the remote island life. Bliss. After an included lunch on the island, we’ll head back to Cartagena for more chill-time. Later, get the gang together and head to the hip neighbourhood of Getsemani for cold beers and salsa dancing. Olé!

Nobody panic: this is your last full day on tour. So, don’t waste a second. You could jump on a public bus and squeeze in more beach time at La Boquilla. Or explore the mangroves here on a kayak tour. Get the low-down on Colombian history at Zenú Gold Museum. Flash some cash at Las Bovedas market. Or get one last feed of fresh seafood at a local restaurant. And this afternoon? We got you. Learn all about Colombia’s national drink at an included rum tasting experience. Tonight, is your last in the ‘Jewel of the Indies’ so, get the gang together and head to Plaza Trinidad. This amazing adventure deserves to go out in style!

You came. You saw. You embraced it all. Now it’s time to shake off last night’s celebrations, get down to breakfast and swap those socials with your awesome AF trip mates (you’re going to need them for next year’s reunion trip). Where to next?
